John believed that just as a natural dad takes pride in his son, Jesus was the joy of His Father. Mark 1:11 "And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, whom I love; with You I am well pleased.'"
And Jesus is our strength. Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (NKJV).
Hence, John's declaration: "The joy of the Lord is my strength, - that's Jesus!"
