Trust the Pilot

This is from the Corrie ten Bloom devotional, "Each New Day", day June 12th.

"The admission of commitment to God resembles getting on an airplane. Once you are on board, you don't worry about the directions, for they are the pilot's job. Your responsibility is to get on the right airplane and, where necessary, to change planes. The pilot must do the guiding and the pilot is the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 48:17 "This is what the Lord says - your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the Lord, your God who teaches you what is best for you, Who directs you in the way you should go." (NIV)

Father, thank You that the Holy Spirit controls my life, leading me in the path You choose for me to travel."

I have rarely thought about how much we trust the things of this world, and sometimes, how little we trust the Lord, who is the Creator of all. We trust that our brakes will stop us when needed as we drive our car, we trust that the food we eat in restaurants or purchase in the grocery store is edible and will not make us sick, we trust that after working all week, we will receive a paycheck and the list can go on and on. Even though we sometimes don't see the evidence, we still trust those things to be true. Just think about it.

When it comes to the Lord, even though He has promised us so much if we will just follow Him and obey His commandments, sometimes, if we don't see the evidence of those promises coming into fruition, we begin to doubt. If we spend some time thinking about it, it doesn't make any sense to doubt the Lord, Who is faithful, while trusting in material things and people that sometimes fail us.

This week, let's take some time to purposefully put our trust in the Lord, based on His promises to us. As we do, and surrender our lives to Him, I believe we will be amazed at how our lives are transformed through the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit. I am willing to try. How about you?
